About Field Placement

The Taskstream Field Placement module is designed to facilitate the management of supervised professional work (such as internships, externships, coops, or practica) that students are required to complete in order to earn a degree or credential.

Whether you are coordinating clinical placements for students in your Nursing or Pharmacy program, placing students in your Teacher Education programs in cooperating schools for student teaching, administering credited studio or performance experience in the Arts, or handing professional internships for students in any program, the flexible Field Placement module will help you to manage the information associated with these field activities and will assist you in making informed decisions about where to place your students. You can handle multiple placements per student, associating programs/courses with the corresponding placement and (DRF) requirements.

Two Field Placement links display on the TS Coordinator page:

Database Administration

An authorized Field Placement Coordinator uses this area to set up and activate a unique customized information repository for each program/discipline that incorporates supervised professional work.

Create as many databases as needed to handle the unique requirements of different disciplines, departments, academic programs or courses. However, be aware that Field Placement databases are fully separate from one another. You will NOT be able to combine databases.

Each setup includes the assignment of management permissions, and associating Field Placement with Academic Programs/Courses and DRF Categories/Requirements.

Because the vocabulary used to refer to field activities varies from program to program as well as by institution, Taskstream enables the creation of separate databases for each program/discipline that administers field activity. The Coordinator defines terminology and customizes the selection of fields and response options used to manage the site, district (when applicable), staff, supervisor and placements. This ensures that templates are appropriate to manage the specific types of fieldwork administered by each program/discipline.

Until a database has been created and Activated for a Program, related Site, Staff, Supervisor, District and Placement information cannot be collected.

Field Placement Management

Various features of the permission-based Field Placement Management area facilitate the maintenance of placement-related profiles, placement administration and evaluation processes and reporting.

Site, Staff, District and Supervisor Profiles

  • Organize information for placement locations, including contact information and (if appropriate) site demographics.

  • Create profiles for site staff, as well as for placement supervisors in the students' fields of study.

  • Collect contact and other important information for districts associated with field placements.

Placement Management

  • Assign students to locations based on criteria such as proximity and whether site is currently accepting placements.
  • Manage existing placements, including changes of site or staff, details of subjects and specialization, supervisor assignments, etc.

Student Performance Evaluation

  • Create a comprehensive picture of student performance across multiple field placements and other assessment activities.

  • Engage all stakeholders in assessments using rubrics, custom forms, reflective journals and other instruments.

  • Report on demographics by sites, placements and academic programs (if relevant).

  • Display placement details, including (when relevant) related evaluation information, for one or multiple candidates.

  • Report on supervisors and their assignments.
